Fashion Shorts

The definition of fashion shorts changes almost every summer: what’s in fashion this year could be laughed at next year. There are some hard and fast rules for men’s and women’s fashion shorts though, and the important thing is to feel cool and comfortable in whatever you’re wearing. Find a style and design that suits you, and your shorts will look fashionable for years to come.

Bermuda Shorts

Bermuda shorts reach to above the knee and are usually covered in brightly coloured designs: pictures of flowers and leaves are Bermuda short classics. These fashion shorts were most popular in the late 1980s and 1990s, but are considered a bit OTT now and have been all but replaced by longer, baggier surf shorts with more demure designs.

Billabong Shorts

One of the most popular makes of surf shorts (also known as board shorts), Billabong makes classic, stylish designs that normally reach to just below the knee or calf-length. Other brands of surf shorts include Animal, Bench, Quicksilver and Hurley. Surf shorts are normally a cross between fashion shorts and swimwear, allowing you to wear them in the sea and on land. They might contain mesh inner shorts, and will have a drawstring waist.

Jean Shorts

Jean shorts (or denim shorts) are a design classic for women’s summer wear. Teamed with a fashionable top and shoes or flip-flops, a good pair of jean shorts or denim cut-offs can last from summer to summer, just as a well-fitted pair of jeans can go on and on. They normally reach to the top of the thigh, and can be embellished with intricate embroidery or left plain.

Jordan Shorts

Jordan shorts are made by Michael Jordan’s own sportswear brand, and have been designed specifically for basketball players but are often worn as fashion shorts. All genuine Jordan shorts display the Jumpman design trademark, Michael Jordan’s seal of approval.

We have missed out sport shorts because they deserve a page to themselves.
