Types of Shorts

If you’re looking for a new pair of shorts, it can be hard to know what to choose. The style of sports shorts or fashion shorts is just one aspect of this: but what material should you go for?

While natural fibres might be a more hygienic option in some cases, the latest technology means that man-made materials have been developed for the ultimate in comfort and convenience.

Cotton Shorts

Cotton shorts can be very comfortable and easy to wear, but they can also be easily creased and you might find that some man-made fibres are more cooling on a hot day or while you’re exercising. Cotton is normally the material of choice for women’s fashion shorts.

Denim Shorts

Once the height of fashion, denim shorts can offer a simple, stylish look (especially for women) but are not designed for sporting activities. On a hot day, a pair of denim shorts can be very restrictive and retain heat.

Lycra Shorts

Lycra or Lycra-mix shorts are generally designed for cyclists, and have been developed especially to reduce chafing and rubbing. One of the most practical types of shorts, a good pair of Lycra cycling shorts will be breathable and comfortable, like a second skin.

Nylon Shorts

The most common shorts made from nylon are those worn by runners. They tend to be slightly baggy, with a drawstring waist, and reach to the upper thigh. Nylon is hard-wearing so a good pair of nylon shorts can last years. Nylon shorts were even a fashion item during the eighties.

Short Shorts

We love short shorts! First available in the 1950s, short shorts (or hot pants) have been in and out of fashion ever since, and are currently enjoying a revival thanks to the 50s-inspired looks of stars like Katy Perry. Technically, a pair of short shorts is defined by many clothing manufacturers as having an in-seam of four inches or less.

Don't forget that every year more fashion shorts are added to designers collections alot of these will be new designs on boxer shorts for both men and women.
